The story of Mercury, Herse and Aglauros is related by Ovid (Metamorphoses 2:708-832).

This tapestry formed part of the exhibition Four Hundred Years of English Tapestries, Vigo-Sternberg Galleries, 37 South Audley Street, London 1st - 12th November 1971.
